Why is the human consciousness and “life” after death such a hard concept to grasp?
Saturday, June 21st, 2008I find it rather upsetting that people everyday still don’t understand religion, life, and death. Why does religion (Christianity, Judiasm, Islam, Buddhism, Hinuduism, etc…) dominate people’s understandings of what happens when they or anything else dies. Why do people believe that consciousness and the body are separate entities? It certainly baffles me why so many people consider that their “soul” or their “consciousness” will live on forever - in either a re-incarnation of a state of esoteric ecstasy (heaven or eternal splendor). In order for humans to finally liberate their mind (which is impossible as it results in death) they need to obliterate religion and pour their hearts and minds into science. Perhaps, the human race can advance so much in science - that the need for “stories about what has, is, and will happen to your soul” will no longer be needed. Instead, science will reverse aging, prolong aging, or give people the option to choose death or life.
Perhaps mankind can learn to accept that our organic software-like systems operate on hardware that can only live on average 78 years. It is imperative that there be a national and international message disseminated to the world (which may require a private organization or society) - that our children stop drowning in “entertainment” and begin “choking” on science. I think many people agree that science needs to be studied and overwhelmingly supported by families, society, and especially the government (which hardly seems to take an interest in science, not since the Atomic bomb oddly enough; but not surprising). However, it seems that the majority of society believes that science needs to be more respected. Science seems to be siting on the back burners of the human sub-conscience.
Finally, educators sitting in the front of classrooms need to stop making science boring for their students. Science is far too boring to teach adolescent youths. Yes, it is boring - there is no “story” to it and it’s not entertaining. Science professors: young students need to be entertained and enlightened at the same time! A science teachers job is never completed till he/she has fascinated and given his pupil the desire to learn more. I don’t think professors in America today are currently advancing science as much as they need be.
