I recently interviewed a bright, enthusiastic, and determined young man for a position we are trying to fill at Banner Blindness.  After going over the office rules, standards, and tasks; as well as going over the various online marketing and web development services we provide - he asked, “Do you do blackhat SEO?”  I was surprised to hear someone who has never worked in online marketing ask this.  Banner Blindness does not practice black hat SEO because traditional white hat SEO is difficult and profitable enough as is.

Search Engine Optimization is not easy: it takes patience, planning, manual labor, research, intelligence, and a “system”.

Patience

Search Engine Optimization does not happen over night.  Search Engine Optimization is a battle that can go on for years; if not forever.  Online media producers are always creating better content that super-cedes pre-existing content for valuable keywords.  It can take 1 day, 7 days, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, and even longer to see results for highly competitive keywords.  Without patience and confidence in Google - you will never master your keyword set.

Planning

Search Engine Optimization is very similar to a writing out and executing a battle plan.  Google’s database is a real time battle ground with marketers around the world constantly trying to dislodge and defeat their keyword enemies.  IF you rank for the word, “hammers” and you happen to sell hammers - you can generate hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in revenue.  Anyone can go about finding hammers at wholesale prices; and if you rank # 1-4 google, sick money.  When planning your next Search Engine Optimization marketing campaign, consider: Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How.  You need to know EXACTLY what keywords your trying to rank for, you need to know who your competitors (enemy are), where your enemies are at, how strong they are (number of incoming links), what is their level of moral (if they see a threat coming are they going to be able to sucessfully deter your SEO attack).  After carrying out your next SEO attack; do a weekly or monthly AAR (After Action Review) and discuss the negatives, positives, and outcome of your SEO attack.

The pictures above were photographed with the Applie iPhone 3G. We shined a laser beam directly into the digital camera lens on the iPhone - what we photographed was short of spectacular. We shined the laser into the phone in an average lit living-room.

The iPhone has a few applications that let you explore the universe, earth, and other large scale zoom in and zoom out applications. The magnifying glass software hardware/software on the iPhone is very cool and extremely advanced for our times (year 2008). With the pictures above you can do the same thing and it almost seems as if you are exploring a universe of photons. Test it out and amaze yourself.

Social networks are a growing concern for privacy advocates, and anyone basically looking to avoid public humiliation. I have numerous friends and business associates that have had personally embarrassing situations arise as a result of social networks. These either come from embarrassing pictures, friends releasing secrets, or business contacts being raided. For example, recently a friend of mine who is getting married, had a former lover tag photos of herself (with my friends name) on facebook, and these photos showed up under his profile. His fiance was not happy, and it nearly ended their plans for marriage. Below, Elliot Spitzer, also is facing a similar situation. His personal troubles have only been enhanced now that his wife can see the face of this attractive young twenty-something. So be warned - social networks can create tremendous headaches for you personally and professionally. I was recently searching for a used laptop on Craigslist in Chicago, IL for my girlfriend. I came across a wonderful Sony laptop that was well priced, almost brand new, and what I thought was a local item on craigslist:Craigslist Scam & Fraud - Selling laptops from

I got the old bait and switch when I received this email back after contacting the seller.

How do I know this is a scam?

• Seller stated she was from Chicago - then pulled a bait and switch and is now in the UK
• It is a she - most people trust women for some reason more than men
• The product is priced extremely well and at a believable rate
• Photos look like they were shot with a personal digital camera and not taken from an ecommerce website
• Seller is from the UK, not an African nation that is associated with scams like this

When purchasing from Craigslist only purchase local goods. I usually have sellers bring the items I purchase to my home or office - and I give them an extra five or ten dollars from this. But be warned, don’t purchase outside your own city on craigslist, especially not a high priced item like a laptop from someone in the UK or any country for that matter. This was one of the cleanest and believable scams I have seen in a while, I imagine quite a few people are getting taken for some nice pocket change. If you have been scammed in a similar manner, or even scammed by this same thing, please leave your comments and help make other more aware.
